The Power Plant’s 18th (yes, really) annual Powerball has come, gone, and successfully maintained its reputation as Toronto’s party of the year. The arts fundraising bash, which was sponsored for the second year in a row by Max Mara, brought a harmony of the city’s most notable guests. And with a theme based purely on gratification, the night of the Pleasure Principle was almost too much fun.
VIP guests witnessed (and at times participated in) an ongoing performance installation by Ryan McNamara which made use of the Harbourfront Centre Theatre space with 25 performers weaving and dancing through the room. Artisan BarChef cocktails filled the room with dry ice before guests were herded to the night’s main venue.
The iconic Toronto gallery was transformed in more ways than one with Karen Tam’s Opium Den (you can read more about it here) and perhaps the evening’s most photographed installation, Coryn Kempster and Julia Jamrozik’s Inflatable Culture, which was composed of classic beach paraphernalia and encouraged guests to jump right into the work itself. So, as we recover from the night filled with pleasure, the only thing on our mind is, what’s next year’s theme?
